House Names Farm Bill Conferees

The House of Representatives has named Conferees to work out the differences between the House and Senate passed Farm Bills. The Senate has not yet named its Conferees, but an announcement is expected at any time.

The House and Senate bills contain pieces of the Timber Innovation Act, with the House's bill containing the Research Section and the Senate's bill including both the Research and Wood Innovation Grant Sections. SLMA and our industry partners continue to lobby for inclusion of the Timber Innovation Act in the final legislation.  Additionally, both the House and Senate version require federal agencies to defer to the USDA BioPreferred program for government procurement, which would prevent government agencies from giving preference to wood products certified to specific wood certification systems, such as the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) over others.
