2014 Farm Bill Expires

The 2014 Farm Bill expired on September 30th, as the House and Senate did not pass new legislation or extend the 2014 bill.  The leaders of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees and their staff continue to negotiate a way forward, but there appears to be a long way to go in working out the differences in the bills that the House and Senate passed over the summer.  With the House leaving to campaign last Friday, action is not expected on a new bill or an extension of the 2014 bill until at least November.

SLMA and our industry partners continue to advocate for inclusion of the Timber Innovation Act and language preventing federal agencies from placing procurement policies that go beyond the USDA BioPreferred program in the final bill.
