Wood Products Attributes Highlighted in Congressional Hearings

Posted By: Will Telligman SLMA News,

The carbon capturing and storing capabilities of forest and forestry products were emphasized in recent House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and House Appropriations Committee hearings. During a hearing entitled "The Business Case for Climate Solutions" Congressman Bruce Westerman (R-AR) discussed the carbon storing potential of urban buildings and rural bridges made of mass timber. Additionally, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-MN) and Congressman Derek Kilmer (D-WA) noted the environmental positives of building with wood, including its potential for military construction during an Appropriations Subcommittee hearing entitled "Wood Innovation: Sustainable Forest Products to Reinvigorate Rural Economies."

SLMA will continue to lobby for the recognition of wood products as an environmental and economic positive on Capitol Hill as Congress and the Administration continue to work on infrastructure legislation.
